Volunteer Community Event Assistant x 3 Positions: Harambecouver

We are looking for an energetic and dynamic individual to play an active role in the success of the 2022 Harambecouver event. We encourage applications from senior high school students, university students and community members who are looking to gain experience in community mobilisation and awareness

About the Great Lakes Networking Society of BC.

Great Lakes Networking Society of BC, (GLBC) changed its name from Africa Great Lakes Networking Foundation AGL to Great Lakes Networking Society of BC (GLBC). A Not-for-Profit Organisation, registered under the Society Act, since 24th, June 2010

About the event:

Harambecouver is a three day festival of remembrance, acceptance, racial justice and celebration. It takes place over the summer in late August

There are three components to this program:

Friday, August 26, 2022 

  • Launch Day 
  • 10am-12:00pm 

Saturday, August 27, 2022

  • Art, music  & culture 
  • 10am-8pm 
  • Thornton Park, Vancouver (other locations open)

Sunday, August 28, 2022 

  • Social Justice & Reconciliation 
  • 10am-12pm 

Reporting

Volunteer Community Event Assistant, your primary focus will be in the coordination of the three day program in August. We are trying to increase the number of online and in-person participants each year. You will be working directly with the Harambeecouver event consultant, and reporting to GLBC Founder, Kombi Nanjala. The assistants are required to be present for all 3 days of the event.

 Aspects you will be responsible for

Advertising and Marketing

  • Communication, outreach to, and recruitment around the lower mainland using a variety of local media platforms, and in person formats.

Event planning and execution:

  • Together with the event consultant and GNS BC Founder, the assistants will create a program structure and budget for the event.
  • Coordinate speakers, and various performers.
  • Plan the anti-racism and social justice march.
  • Coordinate catering or meal prep.
  • Coordinate program logistics to performers and GLNS administrative team. 

Commitment

We are recruiting 3 individuals so that the load is shared. Work is completed based on your own personal schedule  but will require on average 2 hours/ week, and all three days of the event. The event team will regularly check-in on Zoom. 

Starting date: May 10- August 31, 2022

 What you can bring to the table

  • Your own knowledge and experience.
  • Professionalism, determination, and ability to self-direct.
  • Strong organisational, time management, communication, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of social media.
  • Previous experience working with cultural diverse populations.
  • Some experience with graphic platforms like Canvas or InDesign/Photoshop is considered an asset but not necessary.
