Black History, every day is a black history day: The celebration of Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” which was created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted African American historian, scholar, educator, and publisher. It became a month-long celebration in 1976.  February is dedicated to Black Heritage Month, honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history, including the civil rights movement and their artistic, cultural, and political achievements.  The annual MAC celebration highlights the achievements of People of African Descent, freedom fighters, Heroes, liberators, and outspoken warriors for their resistance to white supremacy, and racism in all forms.   At Black History celebrations we have an open-door policy for anyone to be involved to attend and participate.

Mashujah means ‘Heroes’ in Swahili.  The power of the People of African Descent who fight to overcome racism, fight for a place at the decision making tables to be heard.  Healing inter-generational trauma and forging a new path of Umoja, solidarity amongst People of African Descent and to educate those that do not understand or who have never won our shoe to understand our pain, our struggle and our endurance.

AFRICAN CULTURAL WEEK – Alkebulan week includes a kaleidoscope of cultural, scientific, artistic and epicurean events in honor of Africa Day – May’22.  Be held under the theme “Peace, innovation and sustainable development in Africa” through exhibitions, film screenings, conferences, innovation hubs, after-works, gala, traditional dance/fashion and much more… Come and celebrate African cultures, traditions and innovations with us.   Alkebulan – Alkebu-lan “mother of mankind” or “garden of Eden”. Alkebulan is the oldest and the only word of indigenous origin. It was used by the Moors, Nubians, Numidians, Khart-Haddans (Carthagenians), and Ethiopians.
